About Coffey’s Coffee Who am I? Cool Coffee Cat
My name is Reg
Coffey. I am the
General
Manager, Purchaser, Quality Assurance Manager, Roaster, Shipper and
Floor
Sweeper for Coffey’s Coffee. Before
you
ask, yes, Coffey is my real family name. It may seem like destiny that
I should
take an interest in roasting coffee, but in reality it was more of an
environmental influence. I am a Food Technologist by trade and when my
wife and
I moved to an area where the usual coffee was nothing more than a thin,
light
brown, high caffeine content, straw tasting liquid that was main-lined
every
morning, I put all of my training and knowledge to work to research and
develop
a small coffee roasting operation. My intention was to satisfy my own
needs. It
wasn’t long before friends and co-workers heard of my coffee roasting
and began
requesting customized fresh roasted coffee from me.10 years and three coffee roasters later, I am still roasting coffee for my friends, relatives, former co-workers and other coffee drinkers who have heard of my product by word of mouth. There is one thing that we all have in common. We appreciate a coffee roasted to the dark side. My style of roasting was, initially, intuitive but after attending training courses in San Francisco, I have come to identify it more with the West Coast style than any other. Personally, if I were to go to a coffee shop for a cuppa, it would be Starbucks. I like their roast style and the ambiance of their shops. I even like their merchandizing. However, several times I found their coffee did not meet my expectations and the coffee beans that I did purchase from them staled very quickly. I know that I am a hard person to please as far as the quality of food and beverage goes. Over the years in the food industry I have earned the nick name of “The Griping Gourmet”. I apply my sense of quality to my coffee roasting and my goal is to provide the freshest coffee possible in the style that you request….as long as it’s on the dark side.
